WordCamp Athens 2026 backstage: A walk through the War Museum

The anniversary edition of WordCamp Athens 2026 has plenty of exciting things in store, and the venue is definitely one of them! For the first time, we’re meeting in a museum. That means that, as we make our way from one track to another, we’ll get to discover historical exhibits and… airplanes. Something tells us there will be plenty of selfie stops along the way!

And we’re not just saying that! We went, we saw, and because we love sharing our excitement, we thought you’d enjoy a little behind-the-scenes look, too. So, how about joining us on our second visit to the War Museum? Come along for a sneak peek at the venue and a look at everything that goes into getting things ready before the big day.

Ready to explore the space and see what happens before the doors open and the War Museum fills with the energy of the WordPress community?

First Stop: Foyer

The meetup had been arranged on Slack, and everything was all set! We met at the War Museum, grabbed a coffee, and caught up before starting our tour in the foyer. There, we began imagining how the space would look on WordCamp day and how we’d welcome the community!

Where will the sponsors be? Where will we set up the coffee stations, the community booth, and the swag area? And where will everyone be able to grab a bite to eat or chat with fellow community members?

Alongside all the ideas, we also got down to the practical details, from table layouts to the technical requirements of each area.

Next stop: Auditorium

In the auditorium, we started imagining the event coming to life. We looked at the stage setup, talks, potential panel discussions, and the technical equipment needed to make it all happen.

We also discussed accessibility, as ramps are available both in the auditorium and on the stage. Our goal is to make the experience as welcoming and accessible as possible for everyone attending.

On to Track B!

Continuing our tour, we made our way to Track B, where we explored how best to use the space: for workshops, talks, or perhaps a combination of both.

We also checked out a smaller room that could serve as a base for our social media team and photographers. After all, behind every talk and activity, there’s a team working hard to capture and share all the moments that make WordCamp special!

And the planning continues…

Our tour was followed by a two-hour meeting with the venue manager. We discussed technical requirements, sponsor needs, food arrangements, and the possibility of setting up a dedicated space for… well, we can’t reveal everything just yet! 👀 Stay tuned, we’ll have more to share soon.

See you at the War Museum
